About Matt Clark:
Matt Clark was born and raised in Southern California. He received a BFA in Illustration from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. Matt specializes in contemporary figurative and portrait painting. He primarily draws inspiration for his subject matter from those closest to him. He also enjoys allowing a certain amount of chaos and serendipity into his paintings. Common themes in his work include contrasting feelings of hope and loneliness, the ability or inability of man to form connections to others, and environmental issues. Matt also enjoys commissioned portraiture, striving to strike a unique balance between personal expression and a lively likeness of the sitter. His style is informed and inspired by diverse artists and illustrators past and present including Wyeth, Sargent, Whistler, Hopper, and instructors such as Kent Williams, Aaron Smith and Michael Hussar.
